Aisu - Zap Bar Salts FAQs

Nicotine salts are a more stable and smoother form of nicotine found naturally in tobacco leaves. In vape juice, they’re made by combining pure nicotine with a weak acid (like benzoic acid), allowing for faster absorption and a smoother throat hit, even at higher strengths.

They mimic the sensation of smoking more closely than traditional e-liquids, making them ideal for smokers switching to vaping. Nic salts come in a huge variety of brands and flavours and have become one of the most popular e-liquids sold in today’s vaping market. It is also the e-liquid type used in all traditional disposable vapes and prefilled pod systems.

  • Freebase is the traditional pure form of nicotine used in most ready to vape e-liquids. It has a higher pH, which creates a stronger throat hit, especially at higher strengths. It’s best suited for sub-ohm devices and lower nicotine levels (e.g. 3mg to 18mg).Nicotine salts, on the other hand, are becoming more and more widely used in 10ml bottles and all prefilled vaping devices, these are made by combining nicotine with a mild acid (like benzoic acid), which lowers the pH. This makes the vapour smoother to inhale, even at higher nicotine strengths like 10mg or 20mg. They also absorb into the bloodstream faster, delivering a quicker nicotine hit—more similar to smoking a cigarette.
    Feature Freebase Nicotine Nicotine Salts
Throat Hit Harsher at high strengths Smooth even at 20mg+
Absorption Speed Slower Faster, more like cigarettes
    Best Devices Sub-ohm/high-power Low-power/pod/MTL systems
    Suitable Strength 3–18mg 10–20mg

    In short:

    • Freebase = Harsher, slower, better for bigger vapour clouds
    • Nic salts = Smoother, faster, better for craving relief

Nicotine salts work best with low-powered, compact MTL vape devices—the kind designed for smooth, efficient nicotine delivery without producing a massive amount of vapour.

  • Low-wattage pod systems
  • Mouth-to-lung (MTL) vape kits

Avoid using high-strength nic salts in sub-ohm vape kits or high-wattage mods, as the high nicotine strength can be overwhelming and cause side effects like dizziness or nausea. However, nic salt booster shots are available that can be added to shortfill e-liquids for those who prefer the smoothness of nic salts over the harshness freebase version.

Devices That Work Best With Nic Salt E Liquids Infographic Image For Nic Salts Faq Vapestreams

You can expect around 3,000 puffs from a single 10ml nic salt bottle, depending on your device and vaping habits.

That’s roughly equivalent to:

  • x5 disposable vapes, each providing ~600 puffs
  • Much more cost-effective than disposables

Factors that affect puff count:

  • Device efficiency (low-wattage kit = more puffs)
  • Coil type and wattage
  • Puff length and frequency

Nic salts + refillable pods = more puffs, better value, same satisfaction

The best nicotine strength depends on your previous or present smoking habits and how strong you want the hit to feel. Nic salts deliver nicotine faster and more smoothly than traditional freebase vape juice, so you don’t need as much to feel satisfied.

Smoker Type Suggested Nic Salt Strength
Light (0–5 cig/day) 5mg
Moderate (5–15/day) 10–15mg
Heavy (15+/day) 20mg

The smoother hit of nic salts makes higher strengths feel less harsh, so you get more satisfaction with fewer puffs.

What Nicotine Strength Should I Choose Faqs Infographic Image Vapestreams

Technically, no—they’re not stronger in content, but they feel stronger in effect due to faster absorption. A 20mg salt nic feels smoother than a 12mg freebase, but the nicotine hits faster and feels more like a cigarette.

Nicotine salts:

  • Reach your bloodstream more quickly
  • Provide faster relief from nicotine cravings
  • Feel more potent, especially in the first few puffs

That’s why many people say salt nic “hits harder,” even if the nicotine content is the same.

Generally, it is not recommended to use nic salts in sub-ohm devices because these devices produce much larger amounts of vapour, which can lead to excessive nicotine intake. The sub-ohm devices are designed for lower nicotine strengths and high-VG e-liquids, which produce larger clouds and a different vaping experience.

Nic salts are typically available in higher nicotine strengths than freebase nicotine e-liquids. Common strengths range from 10 mg/mL up to 20 mg/mL. Some brands may offer lower strengths, such as 5 mg/mL, to cater to user preferences. It’s important to choose the right strength based on your daily nicotine needs and device compatibility.

Vaping is not entirely risk-free. However, nicotine salts are considered a safer alternative to smoking. They don’t produce tar or carbon monoxide, which are two of the most harmful components of cigarette smoke.

Not recommended for non-smokers, nicotine is still an addictive substance.

Many former smokers find nic salts helpful in their efforts to quit smoking. The higher nicotine levels and rapid absorption can more closely mimic the sensation of smoking, making it easier to transition. However, individual experiences vary, and quitting smoking successfully often involves a combination of the right vaping product, personal commitment, and support.

Nic salts may be suitable for you if:

  • You are a heavy smoker looking for a more satisfying nicotine experience.
  • You prefer a smoother throat hit at higher nicotine levels.
  • You want a discreet vaping option with less vapour production.
  • You are using a low-wattage, MTL mouth-to-lung device.
  • They may NOT be ideal if you enjoy large vapour clouds or use high-powered sub-ohm devices.
